Sauber F1 Renamed – Alfa Romeo Racing
Sauber are a team who have been making changes throughout the last couple of years however today – it was announced that the Sauber name will no longer be seen on the grid or around the paddock due to the teams official rebranding.
From the 2019 Formula 1 season, Sauber will now be known as Alfa Romeo Racing – being the title sponsor of Sauber, Alfa Romeo has always intended to expand within the sport.
In terms of ownership and management – Sauber will remain unchanged and independent of the Alfa Romeo brand.
As we all know, the team now known as Alfa Romeo Racing will have Kimi Raikkonen as one of their drivers. Making the shock announcement last year, Kimi Raikkonen moved from Ferrari to Sauber with Charles Leclerc moving from Sauber to Ferrari.
Antonio Giovinazzi will be driving alongside Kimi Raikkonen and it looks set to be a good year ahead.
Frederic Vasseur (Alfa Romeo Racing Team Principal): “It’s a pleasure to announce that we will enter the 2019 Formula 1 World Championship with the team name ‘Alfa Romeo Racing’.”
“After initiating the collaboration with our title sponsor Alfa Romeo in 2018, our team made fantastic progress on the technical, commercial and sporting side.”
“This has given a boost of motivation to each team member, be that track-side or at the headquarter in Switzerland, as the hard work investing has become reflected in our results.”
“We aim to continue developing every sector of our team whilst allowing our passion for racing, technology and design to continue to drive us forward.”
The Sauber name has been on the Formula 1 grid since 1993 so it will seem strange not seeing the name on the grid but in the words of the team “New Name, Same Game!”
