Race Weekend: 2018 Spanish Grand Prix
Another race weekend is upon us and we’re now starting the European part of the Formula 1 Calendar for the 2018 Spanish Grand Prix.
Drivers have been interacting with fans throughout the weekend and yesterday we saw drivers interacting with karting children as you can see in the image below.
Earlier today, drivers have been greeting the crowds – signing autographs and chatting to fans. As you can see in the image below, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas are signing autographs on merchandise – this is all a part of Formula 1 wanting to bring fans closer to the sport and it’s great to see.

Q1 – 2018 Spanish Grand Prix
The pit lane is now open and the first driver on track is Lance Stroll.
The weather conditions are a lot cooler but track temperature is around 27 degrees.
Kimi Raikkonen has now made his way onto the track.
Vettel currently at the top of the timesheets with Raikkonen in P2 – at the moment.
Raikkonen now setting the fastest lap time with Hamilton on P2, Bottas in P3 and Vettel in P4 – it’s only Q1 though so it’s likely things will be changing.
Vettel now sets a new track record with a time of 1:17.031
Drivers are now making their way back to the pits – there’s another 5 minutes to go.
Some drivers are out of the car with 1 minute to go – The Mercedes team looking comfortable.
It’s now Vettel, Verstappen, Raikkonen, Ricciardo, Hamilton and Bottas who are the top drivers at the moment – they’re not pushing just yet but they’re safe and through to Q2.
Q1 – Knock Out Zone
There’s a little delay for the track to be cleared following Stroll going off-track and hitting the wall. That was a silly mistake from Stroll.
Q2 – 2018 Spanish Grand Prix
Now onto Q2, drivers are making their way onto the track.
It’s close between Bottas, Raikkonen and Vettel – Hamilton had a little issues earlier on the track, losing the rear of the car which cost him time.
Vettel goes fastest with a 1:16.802
Hamilton reporting to his team that the track hasn’t been cleaned up well – lots of debris and stones are on track which we can see.
With 6 minutes to go, it’s Vettel, Raikkonen, Bottas and Hamilton who make up the Top 4 – there’s still time to go.
Q2 – Knock Out Zone
Drivers are now making their way back into the pits and getting ready for Q3.
Q3 – 2018 Spanish Grand Prix
The green light is on and we’re ready for Q3. Drivers are now making their way out onto track with the first driver being Kimi Raikkonen who’s looking strong this weekend.
With 8 minutes to go, Hamilton is at the top of the time sheets – Red Bull are looking strong, currently in P2 and P3, faster the Ferrari!
Vettel is in P5 and Raikkonen is in P7 with Fernando Alonso splitting the two Ferrari drivers in P6.
Drivers are now back in the pits with 5 minutes of the session to go.
With 26 seconds to go, Hamilton is at the top of the time sheets, setting a new track record of 1:16.173 with Bottas in P2. Raikkonen in P3.
The Red Bull boys are pushing but not looking as strong as earlier.
LEWIS HAMILTON on pole for the Spanish Grand Prix
Hamilton, Bottas, Vettel, Raikkonen, Verstappen, Ricciardo, Magnussen, Alonso, Sainz, Grosjean make up the Top 10 drivers for the 2018 Spanish Grand Prix.
Hamilton: “It’s a great crowd here, there’s a lot of British fans and support here. I needed this result today so I’m really happy.”
Bottas: “I ruined my first run but this is a good result for us as a team. The race is tomorrow and we will race hard and take back what we lost in Baku.”
Vettel: “The first run in Q3 wasn’t good, I locked up a little bit in the corner and wasn’t happy until the end. I looked to see where I would ended up and my name didn’t go up so tomorrow it should be a good race. I’m looking forward to it and I hope the people will enjoy it too.”
