Sergio Marchionne – “I have no doubt that we will be competitive”
Ferrari are looking confident ahead of the new season as they’re the first team to announce the launch date – revealing their 2018 Formula 1 car on the 22nd February, just four days prior to the pre-season testing in Barcelona.
With the announcement being made, Sergio Marchionne also spoke to the media about the 2018 Formula 1 season, Maurizio Arrivabene, the drivers (Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen) and how the Ferrari squad is getting ready and progressing for the new season, taking their achievements from the previous season through to the next season.
Sergio Marchionne – “From back in August last year, when we overhauled the organisation, I totally believed that these guys, with Maurizio Arrivabene as team principal and Mattia Binotto heading up the technical side, we would be capable of doing something amazing.”
“Given where we started from last year, we have taken giant strides forward – having said that, the second half of 2017 was… character building. We learned a lot over the past six months and we are trying to move forward, that’s the most important thing.”
“We really believed that we could do much more but in 2017, we were unable to reach our objectives – this has also resulted in some changes being made to the organisation of the Gestione Sportiva.”
“We can already see significant changes when it comes to the team’s production capacity and the important thing is to start 2018 with all this expertise and experience to manage this organisation.”
“I have no doubt that we’ll be competitive.”
Sergio Marchionne speaking about Sebastian Vettel – “Sebastian Vettel is a guy who studies a lot, studies himself and is committed, therefore, I think that we will see less of his emotive side. I think he’s learned enough. I continue to maintain that we have an obligation towards these drivers, to give them a car with which they can race others and I think we gave them both a great car in 2017 and so, from now – it’s down to them.”
Sergio Marchionne speaking about Kimi Raikkonen – “As for Kimi Raikkonen, I believe he is really great, truly talented and I have never doubted his abilities. I tell you, he’s a really top guy – otherwise, he wouldn’t have taken pole at a track like Monaco.”
We’re all hoping that the 2018 Formula 1 season will be even better than the last and with teams now getting back to their routine following the Christmas break we’ll be bringing you all the latest!
