Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Qualifying LIVE

It’s the final qualifying session of the 2017 Formula 1 season and here, you’ll be able to see the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Qualifying LIVE with updates as they happen.

Prior to qualifying, there was some work going on in the Mercedes garage – on Valtteri Bottas’ side.

Drivers are now making their way to the cars and getting ready for the qualifying session ahead.

Qualifying 1 – Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Qualifying LIVE

The pit-lane is now open and drivers are making their way onto the track for the final qualifying session this year.

 Times have now started coming through and Hamilton goes fastest – just pushing Bottas to P2 however the Ferrari’s are yet to set their times.

Kimi Raikkonen is now making his way round the track whilst his team-mate, Vettel – goes 3rd fastest.

A new track record has now been set – Bottas now sets the fastest time, moving Hamilton to P2.

Vettel is now making his way round the circuit again and sets the 3rd fastest time.

The Red Bull Racing drivers are also in the mix with the Ferrari drivers – with Ricciardo in P4 and Verstappen in P6, Raikkonen sandwiched between them in P5.

The two Ferrari’s have now moved up to P3 (Raikkonen) and P4 (Vettel) with the Red Bull drivers dropping to P5 (Ricciardo) and P6 (Verstappen).

Drivers are now back in the pits for a tyre change, getting ready for the final run in Q1. There’s 5 minutes to go…..

Verstappen is now back out on the track – he’s not in any danger with his time as he’s currently in P6.

The top 5 drivers are still in the pits – Bottas, Hamilton, Raikkonen, Vettel and Ricciardo.

Below, you can see the drivers who didn’t make it through to Q2 – it’s the usual suspects.

Drivers who were out on track are now making their way back into the pits, waiting for Q2 to start.

Qualifying 2 – Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Qualifying LIVE

As drivers are now making their way back out onto the track – Hamilton is on the radio to his team, reporting an issue.

 Yellow flag in sector 3 – it only lasted a few seconds.

New Track Record

Hamilton now sets the fastest lap time – 1:36.742 – Bottas in P2, Vettel in P3, Raikkonen in P4 and Ricciardo in P5.

Verstappen not looking as strong, he’s currently in P7, there could be a slight issue with his car – will bring you the latest as we find out.

The top 5 drivers are now making their way back into the pit-lane for a tyre change.

With just over 3 minutes to go, drivers are now making their way onto the track for the final part of Q2.

Below, you can see those who didn’t manage to make it through to Q3.

Massa just makes it through to Q3 – knocking Fernando Alonso from P10 to P11 meaning he misses out on making it through to Q3.

Drivers are all now in the pits, with the top 10 drivers getting ready for Q3.

Fernando Alonso has been brought in for a random check – weighing the car with the driver inside. This is standard procedure and happens with every driver.

Qualifying 3 – Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Qualifying LIVE

Drivers are now getting ready to go out on track for the final qualifying session of the 2017 Formula 1 season – Q3.

Out they go!

 It’s especially close between the top 4 drivers – at the moment, Bottas is faster than Hamilton.

Raikkonen currently setting the fastest time, Bottas now sets the fastest time with Hamilton in P2. Vettel still making his way round the track.

Vettel sets the 3rd fastest lap time and reaction from Maurizio Arrivabene shows he’s not happy with that time.

Ricciardo sets the 6th fastest lap time – there’s still time to go until the end of Q3 so times will be changing.

 Ricciardo – “The tyres didn’t feel like they were quite there, I can feel it.”

Reporting an issue with his tyres which reflects in his lap time too.

Drivers are now back in the pits – all waiting for the final run in Q3, there’s just over 4 minutes to go until the end of the session.

Raikkonen now on his out lap – Hamilton and Bottas were one of the first teams to go back out.

 Bottas isn’t in the best position at the moment as he’s got Felipe Massa in front of him – the two will meet on Bottas’ fast timed lap which won’t reflect well on his time and now, Bottas is down on his time.

Hamilton now starting his final lap time.

Bottas comes into the pits.

On the final corner, Hamilton loses the car – losing time and not managing to claim pole position, he will start the race in P2.

Vettel can’t improve and stays in P3 with Raikkonen in P4.

Valtteri Bottas is on pole position, his fourth pole position in his career – starting the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from P1.

Ricciardo manages to set a better time than his team-mate and Raikkonen, claiming P4.

Team to Bottas – “Well done mate, that’s a great result – well done, P1 mate.”

Bottas – “Thanks, thanks – thanks you guys.”

Grid Interviews (With Mark Webber) – Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Qualifying LIVE

 Bottas – “Today things were just getting better and better – things felt really good in the car. The round 1 lap was good and I’m really happy.”

Hamilton – “He has had a great qualifying session so congratulations to him. I lost a lot of time but Valtteri did a fantastic job so congratulations to him. I was up in my time in Turn 1 and then lots it around Turn 5 and 6 (laughs).

Vettel – “I’m getting better, you had the edge in qualifying here (to Mark Webber who’s Vettel’s ex-teammate) – congratulations to Valtteri here, he did a great job and even though it’s difficult to overtake here, we will see what we can do for the race tomorrow.”

Bottas – “I was so gutted in the last race in Brazil where I started on pole and lost the race. I hope you guys (audience and crowd) will support me and I look forward to the race tomorrow (laughs).”
