Carlos Sainz to Renault?
It seems to be that way….
After the Italian Grand Prix and especially over the past couple of days, we’ve been hearing more and more about driver lineups with Fernando Alonso removing ‘McLaren Driver‘ from his Twitter profile.
It seems that Carlos Sainz could be the key for McLaren securing an engine deal with Renault for the 2018 Formula 1 season and here’s why….
There’s an understanding that a deal has been “agreed in principle” with Red Bull / Toro Rosso releasing Carlos Sainz to Renault – also ending the engine contract between Renault and Toro Rosso earlier than planned.
If this proves to be true, this would mean that even though Toro Rosso would be using Honda engines, they would also be receiving an income boost as Honda currently pays half of the McLaren driver-salary.
In return, Renault Racing will be getting a deal with a new driver for it’s 2018 driver-lineup, more than likely being Nico Hulkenberg and Carlos Sainz – after a disappointing year for British driver, Jolyon Palmer.
It does seem that a deal has been agreed but a contract to finalise everything has not yet gone through.
More coming soon!
