Formula 1 Shield Debut

Formula 1 Shield Debut

It’s something that we’ve speaking about for a couple of years now and with mock-ups being trialled of the ‘Halo’ and ‘Aeroscreen’ – none of them seemed to work well enough for the sport of Formula 1.

Teams are already looking ahead to the 2018 Formula 1 season and it seems like Ferrari has been working on the ‘Shield’ – making it’s debut (on track) on Sebastian Vettel’s Ferrari during the opening practice session at Silverstone, ahead of the British Grand Prix this weekend.

Sebastian Vettel completed 3 laps using the Formula 1 shield on his car however initial feedback to the team was that things were ‘blurry’ when he tried to look out onto the track.

We’ve seen plenty of design sketches, mockups and other trials however this is the first time that we’ve seen some form of shield look so polished on a Formula 1 car – overall, things don’t look too bad but clearly, there’s still some way to go.

You can see more pictures of the Formula 1 Shield below.

I like this version. its a nice version compared to the halo which is simply awful.

I like this version compared to the halo. I don’t like the halo at all.

I know, this looks a lot better compared to the halo. I’m not a fan of how the halo looks and neither are many drivers however we’ll have to wait and see how things look….
