Today, it was the British Grand Prix and what a race it was – with the safety car making an appearance, the Toro Rosso’s coming together and plenty of battles, it made for a thrilling race.

Sebastian Vettel suffered with a puncture right at the end of the race and with Lewis Hamilton winning the British Grand Prix, he’s now 1 point behind the championship leader bringing everything right into play again.

It looks like it’s going to a great second half of the season with the next race taking place in 2 weeks in Hungary before the summer break.

Before then, let’s take a look below at all the details including team and driver reaction following the Formula 1 British Grand Prix.

Mercedes – Formula 1 British Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton – 1st

Lewis Hamilton – “I was very, very fortunate – the team did an exceptional job this weekend. The car felt great and really was generally faultless. I’m so proud of everyone at the factory.”

“Valtteri did an exceptional job to come back from ninth – I believe this was a perfect weekend for us as a team.”

“I was up at the front, got a very good start and after that I was just able to manage the gap between myself and Kimi and just bit by bit – extend.”

“We were planning on stopping on lap 19 or something like that so I was able to extend it by quite a bit – I had a decent gap and it was just about managed that 12-14s gap that I had to Kimi.”

“I could see on the TV screens at a few places around the track, Valtteri’s race and I got to see a bit of the race too. At the end, I heard that there were some tyre blow-outs and I had some graining and some vibration going on in mine so the last couple of laps, I just took them really easy because I knew that others were having trouble.”

“Coming across the line, I felt like I could have kept going, I think we really had the legs this weekend.”

“To see the crowd, I was running outside and got to crowd-surf with everyone. The support has been immense this weekend and the energy is tremendous – I’m glad that the rain held off.”

“The amount of flags, the amount of support, the energy is just amazing and I had some great support from Great Ormond Street Children, Starlight Foundation and Billy Monger who came down and has given us……. he’s just really blessed the team. Also a new friend of mine, Michael – he’s fighting cancer and has come down here from South Africa, he was down by the car as I was on the podium so this really is a dedication to him and all those children who are fighting.”

Valtteri Bottas – 2nd

Valtteri Bottas – “For us, as a team – this was a perfect weekend for circumstances and how we started today, me in ninth place.”

“It’s just amazing what we’ve done today. The car was so good to drive and it was really quick. The team did a perfect strategy for both of us, I think, me and Lewis.”

“I did start the race on the soft tyre and had to run really long, so we actually extended the first sting quite a bit because everything was still looking good.”

“Yeah, towards the end, when I went onto the supersofts, the pace was quick with the fresh tyre.”

“Sebastian was closing on Kimi, I think realistically he would have been a bit too far away, definitely, for me to get P2 but then I got lucky.”

“On the other hand, he was unlucky and to lose second place at the end isn’t nice but 1-2 is perfect.”

Red Bull – Formula 1 British Grand Prix

Max Verstappen – 4th

Max Verstappen – “It’s a positive day, I’m happy to finish the race and get some solid points once again. We got a bit lucky with Seb’s puncture at the end and I pitted to be safe as I knew I had enough room behind me.”

“The front left didn’t feel great and having seen what happened to the Ferrari’s, we played it safe.”

“If I had seen Kimi pit at the end, I may have stayed out to try and get a jump on him but we made the precautionary stop to make sure we finished.”

“With a lot of fast rights here, it takes it’s toll on the front left so we knew that there would be issues later on. At the beginning, I knew I was quite a bit slower than Seb so I just did my best to stay in front and have some fun, it was the only thing I could do and luckily he didn’t manage to pass me on track, after that little battle – my race became a bit lonely.”

“Our pace was good, the car felt competitive during the race and it felt better than it did in qualifying so now, we need to understand why we struggled yesterday. Fourth is a good result, probably one place better than what we expected which is always a nice surprise.”

“We have some upgrades coming in Hungary which I’m hoping will make some steps towards being able to fight with the top two teams.”

Daniel Ricciardo – 5th

Daniel Ricciardo – “I hope they showed a lot of that on TV. I felt like the whole race I was overtaking cars and I hope that the fans enjoyed it too. We made up a chunk of positions early on and then I got a bit greedy, going off track and ending up at the back again.”

“I caught Hulkenberg with a few laps to go and then Seb had his issue which handed me fifth, so danke Sebastian!”

“I’ve been really happy with how I’ve been putting my Sundays together for the last handful of races – it’s been really strong and to get fifth from the back today, I really couldn’t ask for more.”

“Last week, I was the hunted and this week I was the hunter,  I love fights of this sport and today, I felt like I could really enjoy that.”

“I would give this race 10 out of 10 in terms of fun – I think you could say that in the last six races, the Honey Badger has certainly shown up on Sunday and it’s been great fun.”

Christian Horner – Team Principal

“It was a great performance from both our drivers at Silverstone today. Max thankfully ran to the finish and provided a lot of entertainment in his rigorous defence in his duel with Sebastian which was firm but fair racing.”

“Stopping early on a one-stop strategy we always thought that the tyres would be quite marginal at the end and as soon as we saw Kimi having a problem with his tyres, without being able to have track position on him – we decided to make the stop and Max did a good job in bringing the car home.”

“Daniel’s recovery drive today was excellent, making a lot of places in the early laps and then he lost out at Luffield – having to do it all again and to go from 20th to 5th was a great turnaround from yesterday’s problems.”

Ferrari – Formula 1 British Grand Prix

Kimi Raikkonen – 3rd

Kimi Raikkonen – “My race wasn’t going too bad until a few laps before the end. I suddenly had the problem, my front left tyre let go with no warning. The air stayed in the tyre but the rubber part came off.”

“It’s disappointing because without the issue – second place was secured and we deserved a better result. We made some changes to the car and they all seemed to have improved the feeling.”

“When you’re confident like this – you can push and I hope that it will be a similar story in the future races.”

“Today, we were lacking a little bit of speed against our rivals, we did what we could but obviously there’s some work to be done and to catch up to Mercedes in places like this.”

“This is definitely not our strongest type of circuit and I’m interested to see what happens in the next race – I guess the Hungarian track should suit our car better.”

Sebastian Vettel – 7th

Sebastian Vettel – “It was a difficult race. The brakes caught fire on the grid and I think this is the reason why I had no grip at the start, they were too hot.”

“During the last laps, after the problem with the front left tyre, I tried to get the car back and recover some points.”

“It was difficult today because I was stuck at the beginning behind Max, I’m not one to judge what happened between me and him.”

“After that, I think the pace was good and considering the fact that I was on the soft tyres. Valtteri  was on other compounds, the supersofts, so it was clear that he would have been strong.”

“Today was not a great day but we’ll see what happens in Hungary, on a different track.”

Maurizio Arrivabene – Team Principal

“Even if the reasons are obvious, complaining about losing a second and fourth place is not Ferrari’s style. Today, the hard fact is that we lost a lot of points in both the Constructor’s and Drivers’ championships.”

“We leave here, set on improving quickly, with humility and determination.”

“We look forward to the next race.”

McLaren – Formula 1 British Grand Prix

Fernando Alonso – DNF

Fernando Alonso – “It was a difficult weekend for us, starting last with the penalties and then in the race – I was following a group of cars and I had another issue.”

“Hopefully, it hasn’t done any damage to the engine and we’ll be able to keep using it in the future.”

“Stoffel was 11th today, I think we weren’t quick enough to be in the points today and I think that I could have ended up 13th or 14th, so the retirement is a little bit less painful than it would be if we’d lost points.”

“Now, I’m looking forward to Hungary, this should be a weekend which works better for us.”

Stoffel Vandoorne – 11th

Stoffel Vandoorne – “It’s a shame to one again finish just outside the points but there’s plenty of positives to take away from this weekend.”

“The pace we showed in the race today was very encouraging and to run as close as did to both Force India cars and a Williams on a circuit like this is a real positive.”

“Not everything went perfectly in the race, my pit stop didn’t go too smoothly so I came out side by side with Felipe and lost a position. That was a shame because there definitely was a chance to finish ahead of him because our race was very similar to his.”

“Unfortunately, no points today but it was very encouraging and i’m sure that our time will come.”
