Jenson Button on Monaco – “Dream for a racing driver”
With Fernando Alonso missing the Monaco Grand Prix this year for Indianapolis 500 in the United States, it’s time for Jenson Button to take a step forward as he is still contracted to McLaren as a reserve driver.
He’s one of the most respected drivers around with huge support not only from fans but from current Formula 1 drivers too, with Lewis Hamilton saying it’s “great for the sport to have him back in, I like Jenson and he still is one of the best drivers…..” (continued on this link)
Chatting to the media, Jenson Button has said that this is “the dream for a racing driver” and it’s clear that he’s looking forward to the Monaco Grand Prix despite the issues McLaren are having.
See what he had to say below.
“To come back for the Monaco Grand Prix, I mean – that’s just the dream for a racing driver! Coming in for a one-off race in Monaco, the most glamourous grand prix on the calendar, it’s that excitement which is back.“
“The 2017 cars are faster and wider, you jump into the simulator and after five laps there’s that ‘OK, I’ve still got it then’ – I can direct the car around corners and I still know how to change gear and push the brake and modulate the throttle.“
“That’s something that never leaves you.“
“I don’t want to be racing in Formula 1 for a whole season because, I’ve done my time in Formula 1 and I’ve loved most of my career – it’s time for me to have a break.”
It’s also clear that there still is respect between Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button – the two often get involved in each other’s social media statues and videos with Jenson Button recording a humorous messages to Alonso through McLaren’s twitter feed saying –
“I’ll keep your seat warm in Monaco and get lots of juicy points for when you return to make you feel jealous that you didn’t race in Monaco!“
There’s lots to come ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix so make sure you keep checking back for all the latest!
